Ahh yes... whenever I get that smell from the strings, I know the guitar is due for a change! Or perhaps even past due! But one sure fire method I use, is that I'll run my finger along the underside of the G string. If I can feel indentations from the actual frets themselves, I feel it's time to change. For instance, right when you put on fresh strings, you naturally won't feel any fret indentations along the underside of the strings. But after a week or two of playing reguarly, you'll definitely begin to feel fret indentations, and I find the G string offers the best indication of that. Obviolsuly even after one day of playing, indentations will begin to occur. But over time you'll teach yourself at what level you find those indentations acceptable, or a sign it's time to change. 🎸

Awesome Craig! I agree with @hmfmusic that it was a good choice to get it all fixed up and looking clean! A little history... During the super early Chimaira days, Jason Hager and I were playing Ibanez 6 strings. Bands like Korn and The Deftones were super popular at the time, and they were using 7 strings. Mark wanted to introdiuce that type of sound into Chimaira, so he went out and picked up this Shecter C-7. I remember the day he arrived with it at the practice spot, and thinking it looked sweet! It was the first 7 I had ever laid eyes on. For a few weeks, Jason and I continued on our 6's, while Mark played this 7 and started writing rffs on the side with it. We all liked what we were hearing, and so Jason and I each picked up new Ibanez 7 strings. Within a year or so, we began recording Pass Out Of Exsistence, and used this Schecter and those Ibanez's on the album, as well as our newly aquired ESP 7 strings. So the guitar definitely has some cool history! I'm happy to see it back in action after all these years, and that it's found a new home with a caring owner! And I'm impressed that it's made it's way to the other side of the world! 🇦🇺🦘 Thanks so much for sharing Craig! 🎸
