Right now guys, I am absolutely addicted to Opeth. I listen to Pale Communion, their 2014 release, every single day. It's the best to put on in the background while you're doing other things. And now for the past week or so, I've been listening to their latest release, In Cauda Venenum everyday as well. At first I wrote In Cauda Venenum off. I wasn't feeling it. But it's grown on me tremendously. The song writing, the riffing, the soloing, the emotions... it's all incredible. Their second to last release, from 2016, called Sorceress, is also growing on me quickly. Amazing stuff! I know that Opeth is hot topic of debate. Many folks hate their newer stuff, and only swear by the old stuff. But to me it's like all bands, and when you get into them. I got into Opeth in the Watershed era, and then discovered Ghost Reveries, which is actually my favorite record of theirs. But anything before that, just doesn't do it for me like the newer stuff. Many will think I'm crazy for saying that, but hey, to each their own! I even love Heritage! đđ¤ So bring it on guys! What's your Opeth best of??

I LOVE Opeth! I honestly need to give everything from Pale Communion onward some more love when I have large chunks of time to listen all the way through a full album. If someone has never heard an Opeth song I would recommend Ghost of Perdition because it really touches on all my favorite elements in their arsenal. Iâve been lucky enough to see them live a handful of times and they always kill it!
The records that Iâve given the most attention to this year are:
Tool- Fear Inoculum
As I Lay Dying- Shaped by Fire
The Elite- Total Destruction
Lamb of God- (self titled)
Opeth are incredible, not a band i listen to often, they've always been able to take you on a journey whether agro or mellow.
my 2020 has consisted heavily of both of the latest The Acacia Strain albums, Fearmonger from Beneath the Massacre, the latest Stoort Neer ep aswell as their album.
well aware I've missed out on some great releases this year, always open to recommendations!
Glad to see The Elite on there Jack! And yes, Ghost of Perdition is a MONSTER track!
Love love love Opeth. I first got into them with Ghost Reveries, which was such an eye opening album for me. Iâd never heard such an interesting blending of styles before that album. When I was 17, I got hired at my local entertainment store to work in the music section (back when there were these things called CDs), and during my second week of working there, Watershed came out. Every night I worked that summer, I would blast Watershed after close and force everyone there to listen to it, and it would play through the entire album at least once since it took so long to close the store. Listening to that album brings back so many wonderful memories, as well as being musically immaculate.
Also, if you guys havenât checked out Oceans of Slumber, DO IT. By far my favorite new find of 2020...to me they kind of sound like Opeth with female vocals.
That's so awesome Aaron! Watershed is SO frickin good man! I will check out Oceans of Slumber for sure! Feel free to leave us a link to your favorite cut!đ¤
Here's the three singles from their new album...I've been jamming this album non stop!
