I realized that my bass guitar was having an important birthday this year; 20 years old! The guitar had a plastic just-a-nut which broke so I decided to replace it with a brass one. I also realized that I let it get pretty dirty recently and it was due for a thorough cleaning and polishing. I thought I would share these pictures to this forum for a couple reasons... 1) none of my friends would care about this 🤣 2) It was a lot of work, and I am happy with how it turned out. 3) I used some products for the first time and thought they did a really good job and maybe some of you might want to try these.
The frets were heavily oxidized so I purchased a 5 pack of baroque fret erasers (~$25). After taping the fretboard off and giving a few rubs I was shocked how bright the frets got!
I polished the body with the Warwick bees wax. Treated the fretboard with Dunlop 65 lemon oil. Installed the new nut and restrung. Looking good at 20 years old. Next year she can finally drink! 🍻
